Top 5 Ski Resorts for Families

There are plenty of ski resorts in the world to choose from, but when you are traveling with your children, choosing the best destination can be a bit of a challenge. Here are some ski destinations that will allow you and your family to enjoy the winter.

Sun Peaks Resort in British Columbia, Canada

Sun Peaks, while relatively new (developed in the 1990’s), is one of the best ski destinations for families, thanks to the quiet ski area and the attractive village. The slopes range in height from 1,200 meters to 2,080 meters, which are serviced by 11 lifts. The terrain is highly diverse, making the resort highly ideal for all sorts of skiers, including young children. Aside from the skiing, your family can enjoy exploring the quant Tirolean-like village, with its restaurants, shops (including a chocolate shop, which no child can resist), an art gallery, and coffee shops. If your child is not in the mood of skiing, then you can take them to the Sundance Kids Centre.

Avoriaz in Haute Savoie, France

Avoriaz is a quaint ski resort in Haute Savoie. The 650-km pistes are surrounded by the charming compact village, which makes Avoriaz a postcard-perfect winter destination for families. Convenient and very safe, Avoriaz offers a wide variety of activities (other than some of the most gorgeous slopes in the area), including a water park (the largest to be built in the mountains). However, there is a relative lack of hotels and chalets, and the weekends can get very crowded.

Sainte Foy in Savoie, France

The wide variety of slopes is one of the main attractions of Sainte Foy in Savoie, as well as the great value for money and the relative unpretentiousness of the resort. The village is small and quaint, with the restaurants, bars, and shops limited compared to the variety of the slope. The chalets and apartments are gorgeous—built in the Savoyard style, they make for great holiday pictures to cherish in your family album. Young skiers will definitely enjoy learning the basics in the fenced nursery slope right beside the village.

Obergurgl in Tirol, Austria

If you are looking for a traditional Alpine holiday, then Obergurgl in Tirol is just the place. This area is one of the most snow sure slopes in the country, which means that you would not get disappointed with bare, earthy slopes during your visit. The slopes are relatively gentle and easy, making Obergurgl perfect for both young and amateur skiers. Skiing season is also long in this region, lasting from November to May. There are high-speed chairlifts and a free bus service in the resort.

Wengen in Bernese Oberland, Switzerland

Instilling a fascination for the winter wonders of nature in your children will be very easy in this lovely Swiss destination. The locals are very friendly, easily matching the charm of the village. The terrain is varied enough for a diverse range of skiers, but mainly, Wengen is ideal for families who want a relaxing winter holiday. There are nursery and kindergarten slopes—perfect for your children to frolic around the snow.
