One of the largest towns in Laos, Pakse serves as a major hub for commerce and transport in the county. This is the city that will host you when visiting well known attractions such as the Bolaven Plateau, Si Phan Don, Wat Phou, Lao Ngam or the protected area of Xe Pian as well as Tad Lo.
With its unique relaxing atmosphere, ubiquitous riverside bars and restaurants, many massage clinics and friendly locals, you have every reason in the world why you should visit Pakse during your next holiday vacation and be stunned by topnotch attractions such as:
- Wat Luang: This boasts of being not just the biggest temple of Pakxe but also the most beautiful one as well. The Buddhist Monk School is housed here and is well known as the perfect place for seeing the ceremony of monk alm giving and you will find lots of tourists here as well at any given time.
- Wat Phabad: this is the oldest temple in Pakxe, located just some few km away from Pakse Airport. According to locals, the temple has a Buddha Footprint and it is no wonder hundreds of tourists are always flocking here.
- Ban Keosamphanh: This used to be a camp for the French army and it is now a popular night center in the town.
- Big Buddha: this temple complex was built just recently and has since then become one of the most iconic attractions in the town. From the temple, you will be able to see some great views of the city and river and it is a place that you should certainly plan to visit.
Even though there are no so many attractions in Pakse as such, the town serves as a good base when travelling to other attractions like the Bolaven Plateau which houses waterfalls galore and coffee fields. At Sepian National Protected Area, you will be thrilled with some eco- tours, village stays and trekking and even visit the famous Angkor temple complex.
Car hire at Pakse Airport if you want to have an easy time travelling to these attractions. This is more so due to the fact that most of them are located outside the city and public transportation might be largely unreliable. Car hire at the Airport is very affordable and will certainly not cost you a fortune.
