The beaches in India are mainly located in the southern, eastern and western part of the country. The states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, West Bengal and Orissa, the Union Territories of Pondicherry and Daman & Diu and the islands of Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands are the regions where you can find beaches in India. The most popular beaches in India are as follows:

Baga Beach

Baga Beach is undoubtedly the most famous beach in the country and is known as a part destination for domestic as well as international tourists. Baga beach is situated in the state of Goa in western India. Para gliding, water scooting etc. are some of the adventure activities that people can enjoy at this beach. However, it is a very crowded place and is not for those who enjoy the beach to calm and quiet.

Pondicherry Beach

This beach is situated in Pondicherry, which was formerly known as the ‘French Riviera of India’. The beach and its surrounding city offer people with the ideal opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the colonial past of India. The beach is very peaceful and there are many popular tourist attractions situated near the beach, such as ‘Auroville’, War Memorial, Botanical Garden, Sacred Heart of Jesus Basilica etc. The city of Pondicherry featured in the famous Hollywood film, ‘Life of Pie’.

Malpe Beach

This beach, situated in the state of Karnataka in India, is the ideal place to enjoy the beauty of the Arabian Sea. It is ideal for swimming, speed boating, par-gliding and many other adventure activities. Malpe beach is known for the uniqueness of its sand, which has three distinct colors and has a very powdery texture. Tourists can also enjoy a boat trip to St Mary’s Island, situated near the beach. It is believed that the famous explorer Vasco Da Gama rested on this island, while sailing to India in the 15th century.

Mahabalipuram Beach

Mahabalipuram Beach is situated in the state of Tamil Nadu in Southern India and is mainly known as a pilgrimage center. There is a beautiful ancient temple situated near the beach. The nearby town also has many temples which can be explored by the tourists. The beach is ideal for those who are attracted by the beauty of the religious practices of India. However, it is not really a happening beach and is not ideal for those who want to enjoy partying on the beach.

West Bengal
